Hillsborough County recorded a total of 20,138 crimes in 2017, the most recent year with a complete set of crime statistics. This represents a 15.1% dip in overall crime rate compared to the 2013 total. A breakdown of the 2017 crime data for the county reveals that there were 4 murders, 178 rapes, 673 aggravated assaults, 3,230 simple assaults, and 216 robberies. Reported incidences of property crimes include 43 arsons, 848 burglaries, 3,401 larceny thefts, and 351 motor vehicle thefts.
Compared to its 2013 crime figures, Hillsborough County recorded higher numbers of rape (18.7%), aggravated assault (18.9%), robbery (43.3%), and motor vehicle theft (27.2%) in 2017. The five-year crime trend for the county also reveals falling murder (55.6%), simple assault (6.3%), arson (45.6%), burglary (48.3%), and larceny theft (42.5%) rates.

The Criminal Records Unit of the New Hampshire State Police provides criminal history reports for all counties of the state. It accepts walk-in and mail requests for background checks. If you prefer to apply in person, come to the Public Counter of the New Hampshire Department of Safety at 33 Hazen Drive, Concord, NH 03305. Bring along a valid photo ID such as a current driver’s license or passport.
To submit a mail request, download and complete a Criminal Record Release Authorization Form. Have this form notarized by a notary public or a Justice of the Peace. Include a photocopy of a government-issued phot ID, a self-addressed stamped business letter-sized envelope, and a check for copy fees with your application. The fee for the first copy of a divorce certificate is $15. Each additional copy costs $10. Make your check payable to Treasurer – State of New Hampshire.
Other vital records, such as certified copies of birth, death, marriage, and civil union certificates, are available from the Division of Vital Records Administration of the New Hampshire Department of State.
